Alfonso "Al" Roque

Senior Mouse Technician

Al Roque

I have been an animal technician for over 25 years and have worked with the Ashouri Lab since she opened her lab. I completed a Bachelor's of Science in Animal Husbandry at De La Salle Araneta in the Philippines before moving to the US. I support the large colony of wild type, genetically modified, and immunodeficient mouse colonies from the Ashouri, Zikherman, and Weiss Labs at UCSF. I work closely with all the primary investigators in each lab to perform the required meticulous record-keeping, accurate genotyping and unequivocal ear-punch marking of every single animal in the colony, along with colony management, monitoring of breeders, weaning of animals, maintenance and use of foster mothers, as well as monitoring health of both immunodeficient and experimental animals.
